I read this and wondered why… the only answer I have is that Google knows that little Indian kids will take part in a competition and do their best for their school. They better, or else their teachers will flunk ‘em. American kids on the other hand, just need big cash prizes before they can be coaxed to get up and do something that Google dare put on their home pages… they are after all doing something that someone in Google was getting paid to do, all these years. Mininova dies

I just found out that a court closed down www.mininova.org. The powers that be are waging war on pirates, and winning, apparently, after a long time. A sad day indeed.

Here’s the official announcement.

According to that announcement, they haven’t been shut down, and have in fact just limited the torrents on the site to completely legal ones. I think everyone would agree that in the pirate world, that is the definition of “shut down”.

Thanks for the ride though boys, it was fun while it lasted. Although I didn’t really use the site often, I do know that it was a clean site — no porn ads hitting you in the face when you visit it. Oh well, the good die young.

Bike racing in India?

Q. Ever wonder why you always see bike racers zipping through traffic in India, but always on old cheap bikes? In fact, sometimes I think the older the bike the more they try and race with you… why is that?

A: they have nothing to lose. They’re idiots; they aren’t risking too much money, because their bikes cost nothing… and come to think of it, their lives probably aren’t worth much more either… there are of course exceptions, but they’re rare.
